Looks to me like an '80 or '81 model fitted with non-standard grill cloth. It's obviously an export model due to the presence of the voltage selector on the rear panel. Tranny numbers would help confirm the date.

How would I know?

What does it sound like to you?

The serial number confirms it's an '81 model.

This is a essentially a silver face amp disguised as a blackface
after the flak Fender received on the SFs.
This amp however does not have too many of the nasty things
like Mastervolume control that hurt the SFs.
It has tube balancing instead of bias control but what the heck, brown
faces had neither and no one complains.
You might want to try it with a GZ34 rectifier tube, they're interchangeable.
If you love the sound, buy it. Almost anything can be tweaked.
At this age it probably has the original filter caps which may cause
it to hum a bit, change 'em it's a cheap job about $100 or its
a great DIY project for less, just make sure to discharge them before
touching anything. Funeral costs are spiralling.

No, they are not.

The average current output for a GZ34/5AR4 is 825mA at 450V -- specs for the 5U4GB are 1A at 600V.

Fender revised most GZ34-rectified amp circuits in the late '60s to tolerate ever-increasing wall socket voltages which had climbed from 110VAC to nearly 120VAC.

As well, incessant demands for more output power required higher heater currents and more voltage than the GZ34 was reliably capable of providing.

Substituting a GZ34 with a 5U4GB hazards the amp's power supply -- doubly so if the specified rectifier is a 5Y3.

'Nuff said.

Hummm, Yeah my wall votage is 127VAC, must be the nuke plants ! Bed-in power supply caps to 130-140VAC, for my folks. I'm not clear on the tube rectifier numbers, Arjay ! Those just aren't the numbers that I'm familiar with seeing when we talk about voltage drop@ ma levels. You're talking about pure supply capabilities? Art

Indeed.

They're the published specs in my RCA Receiving Tube Handbook, revision RC26.

Thanks Arjay, I have some numbers on rectifiers, like voltage drop and rise time, but not those figures. I'll put those in my notes. And don't lose that book !!! Art

Art, you can often find tube manufacturers' handbooks on Amazon for reasonable prices. Well worth the $15 or $20 IMO.
