I'm new here so forgive me, if this is an OLD question. But, what have ppl found to be be the best of the "newly" made caps to replace the three mica caps (0.01, 0.01, 0.02 mfd) in the vibrato section.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum, BMW. Don't think that subject has come up since I've been hangin' around here. For my BF amps and those of players that I have rehabbed, the ceramic disc caps were replaced with polypropylene film SBE 716P 600 volt orange drops. They worked just fine. Never had the need to replace the originals in amps owned by a collector that I worked for, they were always close enough to spec to do their job. If you're looking for something closer to the old caps, I'd check on what Sozo has to offer. Art

Thanks, for the answer. I've also replaced these with Orange Drops. I was wondering why Fender used micas in the first place? Are they better at high notes or the phasing of this circuit?

s'il vous plaît!

BMW that is a great question, and I have researched this very topic without any definitve results. The only properties that seem to be associated with the ceramic disc caps, is resonance(which I have yet to comprehend) and their quick charge and discharge time(which I also don't understand, unless it's their physical construction that allows this?) . Yeah, so if you learn something about these caps, pleases share that with us. Art

Mica caps have not the same tone than ceramic or prolypopilene or polyester caps

I guess I'll just need to tried various types. Prolly the micas have a "brighter" repsonse, for lack of a better term.
