Windex !!!

I don't trust to use this product on grille cloth.
You can't remove it like on the glass. Could it damage the clothe with time ?
---------------------------------------------
I use myself rag with Sodium Bicarbonate ( baking soda) in warm water. This is a safe product.
You drag the wet rag on the grille cloth couple times and rince with clean water.
This can be done in front of the grille cloth without removing speakers.

It's good for the tolex too

If I remember, I read this trick in Gerarld Weber books.

Hell,
I just use what ever's handy, tolex is tough stuff.
I have the valance cover that needs cleaning.
Like I said, trying to stay as OEM as possible.
It's off the old valance because it was badly damaged, but the cloth survived.

I was thinking a soft nylon brush and some warm soapy water.

I've never cleaned grill cloth on any of my amps but.....the wildest thing I've read on that was in one of Gerald Weber's books,he tells people to take it to a high pressure car wash and hose it down!

A high-pressure car wash is invasive and potentially destructive.

The cloth would need to be removed from the baffle board lest the water warp the wood or turn it into pulp, making reinstallation problematic. As well, the pressure alone would likely blow the black paint right off the baffle. And good luck finding some period-correct black-lacquered staples to re-attach the cloth once it's clean.

The soft nylon brush and warm soapy water has a better chance of success, but only on undamaged cloth that has been carefully removed from the amp. Any snags or holes will likely be compounded as the brush's bristles contact the unravelled threads and further loosen them.

Like I said, I've been at this a long time......

Yeah, when I read the carwash thing I thought, no way...I guess some people take his word as gospel.
The old amps are to be taken care of,they can hold up to regular use but not abuse, and when they're gone, the reissues are not quite the same.
Each one that is still "alive and well" has it's own character.

Indeed!

From my Bronco to my Dual Showman and every vintage piece in between......I guard them all like my grand-daughter's virtue.

As I said, the valance cloth survived intact.
the staples....
some things you just have to overlook.
I know it will never be 100%, but yes, when the originals are gone thats it.
Re-issues don't have that played out, played loud character, that's why when I had the opportunity to adopt this one I jumped on it.
mind you my little 36w all tube 1x12 Kustom tears it up, it's been my faithful side kick for almost 5 yrs
but it is by NO stretch a 135w vintage head.
