Yes could be the caps but must often is the power tubes.

Try with a another fuse, put the right one. sometimes a old fuse blow for nothing or somebody put to low current fuse and it blow

Whith a new fuse, remove all of your tubes. Power on the amp. if fuse blow is something in circuit, caps, transformer ?

If fuse don't blow ,a tube is short.

Put al 12 AX7 and power on : fuse ok, Put 6L6, fuse blow; replace 6L6

I hope this will help you

Do not turn the amp on without the speaker connected. Doing so can damage the amp.

Hey there Imp, how's it going with your '68 Bassman ? Did the amp stay on without any tubes ? I have one of these amps, that I have been messing around with for a couple of years. Depending on what you're looking for, these can be a very strong amp. I can't really say if it is worth the repair expenses for you. Maybe you could tell us, what you are looking for in an amp. Art

If you have the power tubes removed having your speaker jack connected does not matter because there is no load. Just dont get into ther habit of forgetting that you do need to have the speaker connected with the power tubes installed. There will be a load at this point and you could damage your OT. Then again fender used speaker jacks that were grounded in the closed position (No speaker connected) to prevent your OT from being damaged without a speaker connected. You can not count on this these days as it may have been replaced with a el cheapo jack with no shorting leg. Always test your voltage first without tubes and no load. This will prevent you from any further damage if you have a problem to begin with. You dont need a speaker to hear an amplifer to repair it. You will hear it later after you have ruled out any voltage, grid bias, preamp cathode cap/resistor,preamp or PS cap saturation voltage issues

Provided your OT is good. There is much to check out but a chain of command will eliminate all possable errors and your amp will be good as new in short order!
