hi, i just picked up a super twin reverb. it needs some work and i'm looking for a good tech to go through it. i live in the cleveland, ohio area. i was wondering about any mods for it. especially the distortion control, it seems a little weak. i believe this amp has the potential for the tone i'm looking for with some work. think early johnny winter, james gang, robin trower. i don't want to sound like them just come up with something close of my own. i don't use effects so we gotta work with the amp, natural distortion and sustain, tubes wide open with out the volume. any help or suggestions will be appreciated

thanks, scott

Hey Scot,

I also wandered in to this forum looking for ideas on finding something useful to do with that distortion control. I have the non-reverb version, but if your distortion sounds anything like mine, "weak" is an understatement. I have found one mod idea that I haven't yet tried: http://music-electronics-forum.com/t15622/ I suspect getting something truly useful might take a bit more work than that, though.

One thing that made a tremendous difference in my amp - speakers. When I first got the amp, the sound was not very inspiring. I took out the old Utah square magnet speakers, and installed a fresh set of Jensen C12Ks. Big improvement.

C12Ks in a 180-watt Super Twin......?

Keep some spare speakers on hand.

Agreed - not much of a safety margin at only 200w for the pair.

But since I don't think I'm ever gonna get that master volume over halfway up...

sounds like a good place to start. maybe some experimenting is in store. i may have to get an attenuator to get the tone i'm looking for at a reasonable level. then we can save the speakers. speakers have round magnets and are marked 1098902 and 012742. 25 years ago i had a super reverb and a power soak  . should have never sold it. but back then we all wanted a marshall. not too much info on these super twins out there.

thanks, scott
