How do you bias a SF Champ? Or do you? I've read online that there is only a balance pot used to eliminate hum.

Whaddya gonna "balance"? There's only one power tube in a single-ended amp.

Yeah, PT Man, that amp has a cathode bias set-up(aka self adjusting) for the power tube. So if the cathode resistor and cap are within spec, you're good to go with any 6V6 tube. The only thing to balance in that amp would be the filament(heater) supply, but your Champ doesn't come with that control. Nice amp & Tone forever ! Art

IMO you have to check and ajust bias .
You have to check cathod/plate current and replace cathod resistor if current is not in your 6V6 specs

Yeah, I'll go along with what Stratele says, if you're going to get one really nice NOS tube. But if you're thinkin' about getting a few different brands of current production 6V6's, then I'd just swap and experiment. These amps can be a lot of fun, kind of like Fender's Univibe. Art
