If I have a fender twin amp , which is out put 4 ohms, can I plug an extension cab, which is rated 8, or 4 ohms in? and, can I not use the fender speaker out at all? but use the ex. cab jack only? thanks! Ricstar

The output jacks on the Fender Twin Reverb are self-switching......and in order for the amp to operate correctly you must have a load connected to the main jack. It need not be the amp's internal speakers but it should be some type of load that presents 4Ω to the output tranny. The later ultra-linear Twins had dual secondary taps from the O/T to accommodate a wide range of extension speaker configurations. Four ohms is the preferred impedance for use with the extension jack but 8Ω should present no problems. However, in no case should the total load (main jack + extension jack) be less than 2Ω.
