I think if the amp is noisy ONLY when the guitar is plugged, this mean the guitar pickups some interferences, from the house light or other thing.

Do you use single coil pickups ?

But in my opinion is not the amp or could it have a bad power cord ground ?

OK, I'm going to fall back on the filter cap consensus. That 8uf/450 cap feeds both pre amp sections. Of course the power section is also a suspect. Stratele, I like the interference idea. But Rattle said the guitar and cable are fine in another amp. You know, if the ground buss plate and input jacks are corroded, then I'd go with your earlier suggestion, man. But that hum being intermittent and of short duration, sends up the bad tube flag or a faulty cap(charging shorting and discharging). Or, if the the cap is the self healing type, it's shorting and filling the electrolytic gap. Yeah , I know that's sounds absurd, but what the heck. Art

Les Paul with humbuckers so I don't think that is the problem. Never been an issue before. Replaced the the grounded power cord. It makes the same noise now as it did before it was changed. Also tried the amp in different rooms and in a buddy's house and with different guitars. None of that makes a difference.

Yeah, I think it's benchtime for that amp. It could be nothing more than a cold solder joint, especially if the circuit board has developed a good wave. I've found that 100ohm NFB resistor, always seems to be at the crest of the wave, but when it breaks loose it's usually a static type of noise. It's hard to say from here! Art
