So I've had my twin for about five years now and I bought it used. About six months ago it began to "break-up". After talking with someone who knows a lot more about the amp than I do, he recommended that I change the preamp tubes. Once I changed them, there still is a very loud popping noise with a distorted tone when I play through it. There is still a rather loud hum even after I did a hum adjustment. I don't know what else to do except change the 6L6's. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The hum would seem to indicate that the filter caps are due for replacement while the popping you described might be attributable to the bias cap heading south. Unless you're schooled in electronic diagnosis and repair I'd recommend that you find a capable amp tech and let him effect the necessary cure(s). Simply swapping tubes is no solution at this point.
