Tonight was jam night with my Rolling Stones tribute band. As you may or may not know, about a month ago, I bought a 73 Champ. Usually, my setup is a Barber 1/2 Gainer into a SRRI.
Well tonight, my bassist shows up with a surprise. He bought a 77 Champ! It's in ok shape, but needs some TLC. One tube socket is shot, needs new tubes, and a new speaker. Still, it plays ok. I ended up running dual outs from my Boss DD6 (stereo delay) into both Champs - one on each side. I cranked both up to 8 and man, did that sound sweeeeet. I ran that way the whole jam. It was PLENTY loud and those Champs just cut through the mix together. We're thinking this might be my gigging setup going forward as well. I'd only take the SRRI if we were doing an outdoor stage, but in a club or small venue I think it's going to be the stereo Champs. Oh, and price he paid for it: $75. If he puts about $150 of of work into it, that will be a perfect Champ.

And to top it all off, my drummer (who is also a guitarist himself) showed up with a used Traynor YCV20WR that he picked up this evening. Our second guitarist played it and that amp sounds awesome. For only $250 it was a steal.

Those single-ended Champs have a sound and a vibe all their own. For a real treat, try plugging one into a 4Ω 2 x 12 or 2 x 15 cab......an absolutely monstrous tone!

I just scored a primo '68 Bronco for my birthday -- I should have it by the end of the week and I'm really looking forward to it.

Yeah Art, my wife treats me good. And the Bronco has such a sweet visual vibe, even she thought it looked cute!

My '65 Princeton Reverb will soon have a younger little brother.

Dunno, but you should have seen my bassist's eyes light up when we did Around & Around. Pretty authentic sounding.

The Bronco arrived this afternoon and I messed with it for a while after supper. With a Fulltone OCD up front I managed some pretty convincing "Bellbottom Blues" tones.

It's a swell little amp!
