Don’t know if anyone mentioned it yet, but I read somewhere that there were (I believe) Fender tube amps with a solid state emblem on them. From what I read, this was a transition year from tube to solid state. Probably the end of the run date for the tube amp? Anybody else read or hear of this?

Oh wow - I'd like to see a Fender amp like that! I have never heard of such amps before, and frankly, I doubt that anything like that actually was made. First, there was no end of the run for the tube amps - their production continued while the solid-state amps were made, and of course even afterwards. So there was no "transition" as such - the solid state amps were added to the line (and later removed again). Second, the design and construction of the tube amps and the transistor amps differs to such a degree that any spill-over-effect is inconceivable (at least from my point-of-view).
Still, and interesting thought! Thanks for the input!

There were some fake Fender amps made in the Phillipines that sort of looked like the solid state amps, but had tubes.

+1

These were quite popular among US troops stationed in Vietnam in the late '60s and early '70s. Me, I opted to order a real Fender Pro Reverb through the PX at Cam Ranh Bay which took 2½ months to arrive. OTOH the cheap PI-made knock-offs could be bought locally through a music store in Saigon.

Incredible! This is COMPLETELY new to me ; that sort of info is not likely to make it to Europe. Great to have the internet and to share!
Thanks so much!

wow, you don't see that every day! The badge in the middle of the front almost looks like a takeoff on the Musicman logo. That is truly "DE LUXE".

I can attest to the "Fender" knockoffs from the Phillipines. I was carrying a small, (1 6v6), Airline with me on the ship. Other "guitar players" had real amps, and I couldn't keep up. In Olangapo I snuck ashore during a refueling stop, and purchased a "Fender" Bassman 212 cabinet, for $30, (yeah I knew it was a knockoff)! When we got it back on board ship, I found it was a 1-12 with another "12" painted on the baffle. No matter, the extra speaker, helped me get a little more volume when we jammed.
When we got back to port, I didn't have room for the cab at our apartment, so I took it to a pawn shop downtown, he offered me $50. I made him put in writing that I could retrieve it in 30 days, and then took his money! (I think he thought he was really getting a deal!)

about the time these amps came out, my dad thought I needed a more powerful amp than my old Princeton. he bought me a Baldwin amp- the 2-12 supersound model. worked great when I sold it a few years ago. it was heavy, though.
when I saw the new solid state fender amps, I try to convince him to trade the Baldwin amp in on one of them. he said no!
dad was pretty smart, it turns out

Was the "painted" 12 inch an alnico?
