Hi All,
I'm in the process of buying a 1964 Fender Bassman Amp. I'm buying it sight unseen (apart from a couple of pics, see below) and unheard. The present owner tells me that apart from having it's tubes changed it is all original. Also that it has a sound coming from it which he calls 'cramping or clipping'. The guy isn't English and I have no idea what he means by these terms. Can anyone throw some light on the subject please?

The Speaker cabinet has four new speakers, IMF's is what he's told me, are they good enough to do the job? I know nothing about vintage amps so I'm running blind here.

I'd appreciate any help you can give me on this.

Cheers.......Kegs.

This amp have some modifications like line out and speakers impedance switch.

You don't hear the amp by yourself ?
If he had some problems ( cramping clipping ) he must need some work and could be expensive.

For myself, I'm french speaking so thes two words does't mean nothing for me.

Be carefull

Hi there Kegs, I agree with Stratele,"Be Careful" !!! And would suggest not purchasing this particular amp. The term"clipping"would indicate that the amp cannot cleanly reproduce the input signal. The problem may be a simple fix, but with the modifications that were pointed out, you can't be sure of the internal condition and the skill level of the person who performed the work. Not to criticize the amp tech, but without pictures of the inside of the chassis and more information about the mods, I would not be comfortable purchasing this amp. I have no experience with the IMF speakers. Art

Hi there, Art & Stratele,
thanks for the feedback on this, it's appreciated much. I'm not going to rush into things and the guy has had it for sale for almost a month and he's had offers of 950 and 1,000 Euros for it then, when I contact him, he offers me the lot for 900. So, we can guess that the other two interested parties backed out but why is the unknown commodity. Maybe on closer inspection they found something awry but the seller isn't going to tell me what. I need to slow down a bit. I sprung like a gazelle when I first saw it as I have a '64 Jazz, it would suit her perfectly but not, of course, if there are problems with it. I'll see if I can find out a bit more about it and post any results on here for interested parties.

Thanks again for your input, guys......Kegs.
