Just found a present on the driveway from the postman today! My Silverface Fender Champ! Based on info from Fender.com, I've been able to place it as a late '73, possibly early '74 model. Original EVERYTHING! Even still has the RCA tubes in it. Very clean - even the amp feet are barely scratched. You don't see the signs of age until you get really close and see the specks of rust around some of the screws or the input jacks.

Check the EIA tranny codes to pin down a rough build date. There may also be a inked date stamp inside the chassis.

Upper rear cover is installed upside down......

HTH

Righteous score!

Tranny code doesn't have an "EIA" but it does start with "-606". Full code is: "-606-3-28"

And about the rear baffle - really?

Ok, reinstalled the back panel right side up.

Only issue I can detect may be the speaker. When I was playing some single notes I could detect a slight... scuffing sound underneath. Sounds like someone rubbing against cardboard, if that makes any sense. Very mild - but there.

It's ready for a speaker (or a re-cone) -- no biggie. Make sure you specify a 4Ω coil.

The amp is a '73. And a very clean '73 I might add.

Congrats.

That's nice, yep might want to buy a really nice speaker.
Those Champs are great amps for home cranking and recording.
I've always kept one around.

Very nice. I have a 74. Yours looks a little cleaner. Weber has a nice replacement speaker for it or maybe you can get the original re-coned.

They are sweet amps. I just replaced the original RCA 6v6 in mine because it started to rattle. No biggie. Congrats and good luck with it.
