So it seems we are going to lose another US made product. With JBL moving their production, we're left with only two US speaker builders. Weber and Emminence, unless EAW is still in business. Although, Weber uses overseas suppliers, I think we can still consider them as US speakers. Don't know much about Emminence. But those Altec Lansing speakers were a benchmark for many of us. Art

Altec-Lansing and James B. Lansing are two independent businesses, Art. Though there was some linkage prior to and during WWII, the partners went their separage ways soon after that

Here's a link with more details......

In any event, JBL hasn't produced any musical instrument loudspeakers for quite some time though they still offer a full line of professional sound reinforcement systems.

+1 on what Retroverbial said.

I can remember when we called them Lansings, then EVO's were the top dog shortly after.

Yes very good info, Arjay, thanks. I knew Altec-Lansing and J.B. Lansing parted ways, but I didn't know that it was so early in the JBL history. What I was getting at was that the Northridge,Ca facility will be shutting down and moving the manufacturing to Mexico. From what I've read, the Professional Series speakers and the rebuild parts for the D-130,etc, will no longer be made here. Just an observation of another era passing. BTW Mike, I have a 12" Electro Voice from the early 80s in a cab that I use for testing amps. Used it as an extension cab with a Super 60 for awhile. A very nice speaker, indeed. Art

While it may indeed be yet another case of "NAFTA strikes again", it's also possible that there were environmental considerations. California's Air Resources Board (aka "CARB") enforces some of the most onerous manufacturing regulations known in the industrialized world. In fact they recently levied an $86,000 fine against FMIC for unlawfully dumping paint thinner and lacquer reducer. Thus, certain materials used in the manufacture of loudspeakers may be hazardous to the "usual suspects" (whales, dolphins, Earth-Firsters, politicians in Sacramento, etc etc).

Weber's California 12 with the aluminum dustcap, ceramic is very close to the venerable D120.

You can still find some old JBLs that with a recone can last for years.

Other great US company in CA - Scumback, right down the road.
