On my '71 Princeton, I always thought it was as that was the ebay listing name when I bought it 10 years ago and didn't know better. It sounds great and I'm keeping it, but trying to clear up the actual date.

Back Plate: "Made in USA 71" on the back.

Tube chart - no stamps.

Chassis stamp: A18003 - this doesn't match any Princeton amp chassis date I know of - it's more of a Princeton Reverb chassis stamp, but there aren't holes punched out in the chassis for the extra tubes.

Power Transformer:
L010020
CSA 827
-606-4-33

From that I get Schumacher, either it's the 33rd week of 1964, or does the dash in front of the 606 mean 1970s?

Output transformer:
022913
-606-4-34

From that I get Schumacher, either the 34th week of 1964, or does the dash in front of the 606 mean 1970s?

Thanks for your help; may email Fender as well for their assistance.

Check the EIA codes on the pots, Nedorama.

CTS usually uses a 4-digit date code which should help to narrow it down once you correlate that data against what the trannies tell you.

Yeah, was trying to see if anyone could reconcile what I had without me dropping the chassis to check pot codes, as the amp plays and sounds fine and would rather not mess with it, but it may be the only way.

Thanks Arjay.

Definitely where I'm leaning from the transformer codes, but from the chassis numbers of Princetons I could find, mine with "A18003" isn't in the range:

Princeton AA964 (blackface)
A00100 to A02500 - 1964
A02500 to A07000 - 1965
A05000 to A10400 - 1966

Princeton AA964 (silverface)
A10000 to A11000 - 1967-68
A11000 to A15000 - 1969-70

Princeton Reverb AA1164 (blackface)
A00100 to A02100 - 1964
A02100 to A07500 - 1965
A05500 to A14500 - 1966
A14000 to A18700 - 1967

Princeton Reverb AA1164, B1270 (silverface)
A18500 to A19500 - 1967
A18900 to A21500 - 1968
A21500 to A25500 - 1969
A24000 to A25000 - 1970
A25000 to A26000 - 1971
A26000 to A27500 - 1972
A27500 to A30000 - 1973
A30000 to A32500 - 1974
A32500 to A34500 - 1975
A34500 to A36000 - 1976

74 seems likely, as you usually take the newest part and that's your date.

I couldn't find more recent Princeton Chassis dating info; I've emailed Fender as now I'm just curious about my '74 and the oddball chassis number.

Thanks for your help.

Definitely a serial anomaly, Nedorama......and not the first I've seen. My '80 SF non-verb Princeton was the same way......the "book" says it's not even supposed to exist all. But when I cracked open the chassis every EIA-marked component pointed to 1980, except for the original Oxford speaker which dated to '78.

Thankfully my '65 BF Princeton Reverb poses less of an enigma -- it's an "A" prefix serial, with a four-digit number (A05444) and an "OK" date code on the tube chart.
