Does anyone have any knowledge of this Dual Showman and the cab. Goin for 900 USD. What should be checked etc in terms of wear, replacement parts etc.

[EDIT]: lol, forgot to mention this is for fellow forum member and my mate all_thumbs09

Cheers!

Thanks for the help in getting this posted CC! All I know at this point is that it has the original covers, footswitch, and original JBL 15's.

Looks to be a 69-73 Dual Showman Reverb. The '68s had the drip-edge molding around the grill cloth and the '74s added the master volume control. The chassis is identical to an equivalent-year Twin Reverb, with 100-watt output. As a vintage piece, you can expect to replace the filter and biasing caps, tubes, some signal-chain components on the circuit board, plus whatever else was neglected during its service with the previous owner(s). But the good news is, once bench-checked and serviced you can expect to play this amp for ten or fifteen years without further repairs. I hope you got a full-size pickup......that cabinet is nearly four feet high.

Best of luck, HTH

WoW that is in cherry shape and that's a real bargain if all the components are up to par, would certainly look sweet next to my 69 Bassman with the 2-15 cab.

$900 is not a bargain, that's the price.

This is not a very popular amp. His master volume amd many mods made by CBS as result the sound in not as his best like Blackface amp.

But if you like the sound its ok for you

It's not clear if it has the master volume, in fact it appears it doesn't.

If the 2 JBLs are original and in good shape, this may be a bit expensive, but worth it.

Note of caution - this will be insanely loud, like Dick Dale loud, and won't want to break up at all. Think of a Twin Reverb but up on a road case blasting into your face.

If you have the place to use it (recording studio, 40' stage), great; otherwise you may want to think about it as this amp was built to be incredibly clean at incredibly loud/painful levels.

I realize its not very practicle as an in home amp, although I would no doubt still play on it. I'm mainly considering it for its novelty and as a collectors piece. I have no intention of paying the full $900 for it (even taking into account that the head itself has an approximate value of $500 and I've found recent sells of just the cab that have reached $400-$500 in similar condition).

I suspect that its an early 70's model (given the lack of a silver frame around both the head and cab face) A quick 2nd glance for the master Volume and pull boost switch will give more info as well. The "tail" on the Fender logo does indicate that it is an earlier production model.

FYI - my Princeton Reverb is a pull-boost, and as long as you don't use it, it sounds as if it's not there. Engaged, it is horrible.

I'm noticing that the princeton you've mentioned is a '77. the pull boost was a feature added in '74. I'd prefer the amp not have it, but at this point I'm just using that feature as a dating tool.

OK. I got the serial number from it and a few other bits of info. It does NOT have the master volume control or the pull boost switch. Best I can tell its a '69. The music shop is not willing to budge more than $70 (thats if I pay cash) on the overall price.

I'm gonna have to think about this one.

Nice stuff.

On the Dual showman, is there any info on:

What tubes are in it

2 prong or 3 prong power cord

When were filter caps replaced

while minor, if these haven't been done, it will be at least $100 for most amp techs to replace the power cord/filter caps. May be able to knock some more off the price.

Also, have you been able to play the amp and see how it sounds, and what condition the 2 JBL speakers are in?

Not sure on tube brands. some look as though they may be original. others have obviously been replaced recently.

2 prong (will have to be replaced)

couldnt say on the filter. I'm operating under the assumption they will have to be replaced. will prolly have it biased too.

I've visually inspected the speakers and they look to be in suprisingly good shape.

I still have to plug it up and see if any of the knobs fuzz out (which some may well) then play on it. Its just a few miles up the road.

Oh, and thanks! I really like the Blackstar head.
