Hey people, I finally remedied my dillema with that 75 twin, I BROUGHT IT BACK!!! It was an hours drive. well, the chassis had looked like someone had gone through it with a f....INg chain saw!! the octupulor was not only missing, but so were a dozen intregal parts! the dude was an e-bayer, so he had to take it back. There are no real Fender Stores in a 75 mile radius from here, except for Guitar Center, in which they have no conception of vintage fender amps. So, i really do miss my half baked twin amp,so... I am kind of forced to carefully deal with the ebayers! my next move seems to be a flood of Pro- reverbs all from 66, to 75-78. I really am tempted! Is the pro a good reliable amp? I know that it only has less than half the power that a twin has. My concience keeps telling me to stay with the 65 champ That I also purchased on e-bay,[the thing is also for sale, so that I might achieve the funds to get the pro. but the thing is cherry, but, no balls, and no reverb! Here I am rambling away again, sorry, you guys have been not only a warehouse of info, but some of you have known personally what In have gone throgh with my son, and I deeply thank you!! I want my vintage fender, thanx again Ric... thanks again Art!!!

Yeah Ric, it's cool!!! Glad to hear the Twin went back to the seller. I'm not a shopper, but there are more options than E Bay, right? It just seems like such a crap shoot. Any way, the Pro Reverbs are great amps IMHO. Worked on a couple of pre CBS Pros, for a collector, and they're built like a tank. The only issue I had with them, were the speakers(medium duty Oxfords or Utahs). But that's just my opinion. Don't have any experience with the '68 and beyond, but would guess the performance would be typical of that era. Power wise, these guys can keep up quite well on the band stand. Art

The AB165 Pro Reverb is a fine amp -- properly serviced, it will be as reliable as any of the other blackface types. The early silverface versions lost some of their sonic "sparkle" as the circuit underwent several revisions and in the final years, the amp bore very little resemblance to the original chassis. Those 70-watt versions from the mid-to-late '70s (like the Super Reverb of the same era) were totally different, with their "ultra-linear" output stage and solid-state rectifier. As well, the vintage Pro Reverbs from the '60s featured superior cabinetry with their all-pine lock-jointed construction and removable speaker baffle.

Sorry to hear but glad you were able to return it.

Pro reverbs are great and a good amp tech should be able to revise a silverface to blackface specs if needed.

I'd also look for a Deluxe Reverb, either used or the Reissue.

One tip that worked for me on eBay. If it's obviously in need of a lot of work, you may be able to get t for a steal. If you've got an amp tech you trust or can do the work yourself, could save some dough.

Pull-boost amps from 77 on are generally disdained, but no one says you have to engage that boost. I have it on my Princeton Reverb, and it sounds pretty bad to me engaged. With it in regular mode, sounds great.

Other tip - if there are no pictures of the tubes, trannies or interior wiring, ask the seller to post them. If he/she doesn't that tells you a lot.

Good luck!
