Hi Art :), yeah not long now.

The ELNA capacitors are 20 - 30 years old i think they where made in Japan. Mouser doesn't have ELNA capacitors over 100V. They came out of another amp that doesn't need that amount of voltage capacitors. Stephen

Good luck Stephen! I bet your amp will sound just great. From what I can gather, you're using some very choice components. Thanks for the info on the Elna's. Art

There was flaking on the bottom (in picture), top was also rusted but not as bad. Used sandpaper to get most of it off then re-sprayed with engine enamel.

The -58V bias circuit. after much fiddling with the resistors got it to -57.2V which is close enough.

Next is to modify the brakets for the audio transformer to be mounted on the chaise and wire it up.

Hi Steve, this is off topic but I see that you have written New South "Whales" whereas I've always seen it written as Wales.Did you do this purposely to see how long it took someone to catch on?Just wondering. BTW that old Twin should sound like a million bucks when she's done,I know that a Tele or Strat would really come alive through it.

lol accident, fixed it now. mounted the transformer, and now wire-ing it up. will post picture soonish.

Edit:

Okay finished wiring up the audio transformer, currently need another 470ohm resistor to use all 4 6L6's ran it with 2, with V1 and V6 on a bassman 100 enclosure it is very loud already. there was a hum could be from no shielding on capacitors/top(usually has a metal plate) or the hum balance needs to be configured.

I got the resistor and put it in and had it running with all 4 power tubes, tested the reverb channel (running clean) and works, waiting on optic coupler for the reverb circuit.

I have removed some rust and spray painted capacitor cover and side mounts.

It's looking good!

I do remember this website when I was trying to get more info on my Music Man 410 65 and seeing this about rust on transformers:

http://www.pacair.com/mmamps/Resources/ ... _rust.html

Don't know if it applies, but may be helpful to you and/or others restoring old amps.

Nice to see some progress, Stephen.

And it's gratifying to learn that the amp passed its first "smoke test".

Rawk on!

Speakers i have put in the cabinet I'm aware they are different though I'm only running 1 of them amp is set to 8ohms the other is in there for structural support until i have a pair i suppose other advantage is i can swap speakers from slightly different sound.

This is something i did before i started this topic, it was a rust bucket

Stephen, there is a vendor currently on Ebay who sells repro peel-and-stick "REV/VIB" decals for the vintage type footswitches. They're only a couple of bucks as I recollect. Give it a look-see if you get a chance.

Thanks I will look into it.

Ok so I have installed the reverb test ran it and it sounds great. to explain why its only using 2 power tubes, i started it up as soon as turned standby to on it destroyed a resistor and a valve so that needs to be repaired. In my quest for the reverb transformer i came across a 3Meg pot which i will use for the speed control.

I should try to sort some way of recording and then share it here. may take a few days.

Stephen

Thanks :), Thanks for bringing this issue to attention. to answer this, the rust (which was flaking) was on top and bottom layers which isn't a problem rust connecting the layers together will be though, i did have some rust on one side however didn't notice any rust connecting the layers when taking it back to metal.

I have replaced the resistors, it is now working with all 4 power tubes, it is now sitting inside its cabinet. it sounds great still need to do the varbato circuit still waiting on a part (optic coupler), pots will need to be cleaned, cabinet was cleaned with black shoe polish and used a brush to make it look even in colour. hopefully i will sort myself out to record its sound and post it.

Its been a while since i posted I have gotten the Speed pot and Installed it, changed the High Tention Filter capactitors to 2 500V 100uF in parallel, rather then in series which has reduced the AC hum significantly. there is some buzzing from the power transformer could just need to be tightened down
