Indeed! And the current drag on the power tranny for a tube rectifier's heater alone is substantial.

How do you think about this '68 Bassman head converted into a 1x12 combo?

David Allen had done a few custom mods on this little huge-sounding firecracker by adding built-in reverb and vibrato. He also replaced the dual inputs and the bright switch of the normal channel with a master volume and (perhaps, but not certain about) a push-push button for distortion.

Seems to be a fine job, cosmetically. What's "under the hood"?

Reverb and vibrato controls. Very rare for a bass guitar amplifier.

would be interesting to see which Fender he copied - something like a bandmaster reverb, or a showman, or something very different.

Would be curious to see what circuit ended up in there along with the mods - looks like a versatile amp.

Here's a Bandmaster combo like yours with blonde tolex, wheat oxblood grillcloth, brownface cosmetics and circuitry as well as a late 1950s/early 1960s Fender amp logo.

This amp was supposedly made in 1962/63. Blackface amplifiers made their first official debuts in 1964 and lasted until 1967.

Clapton used Music Man amps at the time (shown here in June 1977 during a concert in Switzerland).
