i may combo it- and want to see if a 12 is enough- or should i do a 15?

You can choose any size feeling right in your personal taste.

Personally, I opt for a 1x15 combo which I find almost ideal for a nice smoky Freddie King blues jam.

very nice!

My cabinet is tall enough that it could be a 1x15 instead of the 2x12.

Add this - a Weber Ceramic Cali 15 ($115.00) and you're set! Weber's Cali 15 replaces JBL D130.

From their site: https://taweber.powweb.com/weber/
15", 60oz ceramic magnet, 80 watt, 2" voice coil, curved cone.
Loud, smooth, uncolored, more headroom than the AlNiCo version. Available with paper, aluminum, or the large H screen dome for more warmth. Available with the standard curved lead guitar cone or the straight, cloth edge bass cone.

Some data which may be of use when sizing a speaker to an amp.

A single 12-inch driver has a cone area of 112 square inches while a single fifteen measures 177 square inches (an increase of nearly 33%). Assuming the diaphrams, voice coils, and magnet structures of both speakers are of similar construction and the input power remains constant, the larger driver will move more air and hence produce more perceptible volume than the 12-inch model when compared in identical type cabinets.

Probably. Fender's Custom Shop Vibroverb re-issue used a special-design Eminence 15 -- that would probably be ideal for your Bandmaster. You will need to off-set the speaker on the baffle if you're building a 20-inch high cabinet though (similar to the old non-reverb blackface AA763 Pro Amp). The Bandmaster's trannies are arranged differently on the chassis and do not afford the necessary clearance for a centered speaker in a short cab. You may PM me direct if you wish for further info.

Best of luck, HTH

Someone on eBay had the same idea:

Would be interesting to see what the speaker is, and how much it goes for.

I'd sure be interested in seeing how a Weber Copper Cap plugs into the chassis...all AB763 Bandmasters used a solid-state diode stack to handle the power supply's rectifier chores.

me too, as I thought they were octal socket types. Apparently they make another type:

Personally, I think the seller is "jerkin' our gherkin". I think it's noteworthy that no pics of the exposed chassis accompany his listing. In any case why would someone convert a Bandmaster to use a tube rectifier THEN opt for Weber's Copper Cap replacement, which basically duplicates Fender's original diode stack? Doesn't make much sense to me...

If you look at the image, it's not a tube replacement. My only guess as to why to replace the original diodes would be if they were broken or trying to get more tube-like sag without the tube.

I have heard of people installing a tube rectifier and a switch to give you the choice between either, but that gets complicated fast.
