I recently purchased a late sixties Bandmaster and would like to replace the tubes.

What would you advise? I want the amp to be as clean and sparkley as possible and now break up.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forums and congrats on the purchase!

If you haven't, get those electrolytic filter caps replaced and have the power cord changed to a 3 prong style, removing the "death cap" as well while they're at it.

I recently restored a 1965 Bandmaster and turned it into a combo; retubed with JJ's as a start except for a JAN Philips 12AX7WA in V2, which sounds great.

I buy all my tubes from Mike K at kcanostubes.com, and he's a great guy. He're's his recos to me for my Bandmaster when I retube with the good stuff:

Mullard CV4024 is definitely the way to go for the PI.

For V1 and V2, some combination of Tung Sol Reissue 12aX7, NOS RFT 12aX7 (a little less bright than other 12aX7s and with earlier breakup), ANOS RCA 12AX7A, NOS JAN GE 12AX7WA or ANOS GE 12AX7.

For 6L6s, either the GT 6L6GE's or SED 6L6GCs .

Tremolo tube shouldn't matter much but often JJ's don't work at all in that socket. Mine did so no need to change.

Good luck!
