I've been looking at vintage Bassman heads and doing some research, but I'm still a little confused. What is there to know about the different years? Circuts? I'm just trying to get some general knowledge together. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have a 65 bassman built in the first week of August. I just had gone over about a month ago. New tubes (JJ’s) and filter caps and removal of some bonehead’s mod. The JJ’s are great tubes BTW. Here is some of the info passed on to me by my amp tech. This guy is a walking encyclopedia on old fender amps and I know I didn’t retain everything he said but here is what I remember, I hope it helps.
The pre CBS amps had a slightly different design from the CBS amps. He was surprised to see mine wasn’t the CBS design. But he was able to change it to with little effort or expense. I believe it was in the preamp section. They were changed again in the early seventies with the addition of the master volume and some changes in the preamp section.

These amps are absolute tone machines! I use mine for bass but it’s a fantastic guitar amp. I have played a few of the silver face amps and they sound great to my ears. If this is the sound you are really interested in one I would highly suggest getting one!

Thanks for the response. If I got one I'd be using it for guitar and bass.
