Just bought a gorgeous 75 twin with everything original except the tubes! I was wondering if anyone had any tips on good vintage tubes I could throw in here. I don't want it to bark or overdrive, just the crispy clean sounds of the original tubes.

Also, what about speakers? I have a 2x12 70's bandmaster cab that I run in the twin that gives it perfect bass, but without it the blues fender speakers in the twin are a little too brittle for using at smaller gigs etc. Maybe the tubes have something to do with it I don't know for sure.

So, any tips or trick would be welcome. Thanks!!

Hi there Jmac and welcome to the forum. With all those tubes, if they are all operating correctly, I would prioritize their replacment. If the Vib channel is what you mostly use, then a really nice tested NOS RCA7025 in the V2 position would be my choice. Maybe a JAN spec'd 5751 if the amp is too"in your face." A JAN spec'd 12AT7 or 5751 in the V6 position. I'd stop there and see how you like the sound. If the power tubes are candidates, I'd try some new production mid graded JJ's or Winged C before popping for GE, Phillips, RCA, Tungsol, etc. Now it seems the vendors are as important as the actual tube. I'm referring to testing, matching and reputability. I bet that closed-back Band Master cab sounds sweet. I had good results with Weber Chicago speakers in my early'68 Twin, but that was for rhythm work in a blues band. I found that two Weber California speakers in an open'backed cab, for my '67 Band Master was too clean for me (swapped one out for a Celestion V30), but they are also very good speakers. Art
