Hopefully this will ony post once:
Had what I call a high voltage arc or popping in my DR. Took to my amptech and it had bad power tube so we installed 2 new matched JJs and he tested the preamp tubes said they were all good but in my oppinion a mixed bag some china. Well couple days later pop returned just does it every so often maybe not at all during a session. Have you guys seen or had this problem?
Also did a mod that used old ground switch to bypass vibrato circut for more headroom and breakup what do you think?

Check the rectifier tube and the electrolytic caps. If it's never been recapped, I'd do it if I were you. I'd also look for a NOS rectifier tube.

If you change the rectifier tube, re-check the bias with a bias probe just to be sure it's not running too hot or cold.

Hi Raggs, I'm leaning towards the pre amp tubes, the new power tubes, or the carbon comp plate load resistors. The 5AR4(GZ34)tube, due to it's construction(if a good brand), is unlikely to arc. IMO They usually just fail and blow the fuse, when their time is up. That Vib switch seems like a neat mod. I used to disconnect the Vib circuit in my pre CBS amps inorder to eliminate that signal bleed-off syndrome. Very cool amp! Art

If your tech checked them and said they were all good, I'd start looking for another tech. Could be a preamp tube like Art said, but I have had rectifier tubes arc slightly and not blow a fuse. Nothing worse than cheap tubes though.

Thanks guys, Story Time
My rectifier is a RUBY and preamps mixed as I said so I'll be replacing those. This was a closet case my Moms handy man had in his closet no lie.
He was over working on her stove one day and said that he had an old fender amp I might want to look at. He knew I played cause I'd been to a couple of his singins as he called them. Yeah I'll play Gospel. I said well OK. He's 85 and sure enough went in he went through his clothes to the back of the closet and waged it out. Well we pluged her up after a couple of notes the magic smoke started comming out. (ALL OF IT) The old 15 amp fuse trick I don't recomend it. So gave him a 100.00 for it still feel kinda bad. So took to a recomended tech 3 months later got it back screamin but not all there. 2 weeks ago blew fuse so took it to the good amptech who takes 3 months to get one out. I had been talking to him about it for couple of months took chassis to him and he cleaned replaced 2 risistors tighten up some soldier joints tested tubes replace power tubes and in 2 days I had her back He also verified good caps luckily. He tested preamp tubes and I told him he could replace as I was pushing him I don't think he had um all. So I will get them soon. He's best in town and services all the music stores. He said he got it out so fast cause it was like a 55 Chevy He enjoyed working on it. Your right though he should of changed the sparkplugs. Thanks, Raggs
