Greetings,

What is the correct ohm rating for a speaker replacement in a 64 Princeton reverb? Can a 16 ohm 10" speaker be used?

Thanks,

Joe M

The amps impedance is 8 ohms. Use an 8 ohm speaker or you risk damaging the output transformer. I'd go with a Weber 10A125. Perfect replacement for the Jensen or Oxford that came stock in your amp. Hope this helps.......... 8) Mike

Thanks Mike! I was 99% sure it is an 8 ohm output. So the external out is 8 ohms as well then? Is there a way to modify the ouput transformer to accomodate a different speaker load? I would guess one would have to buy a replacement xformer from a company like Mercury Magnetics?

Sometimes I wish I could find an owner manual for this beauty, lord knows I have been looking!

Thanks for the welcome Fhopkins! Nothing sounds as good as this amp!

Yes, it's 8 ohms. I wouldn't modify that amp and change the OT, just get an 8 ohm speaker. Good luck................ 8) Mike

Agree - on a great vintage amp like that, so easy to get great sounding 8 ohm speakers from Weber, Scumback, Eminence, etc... congrats and welcome!

+1 on the Weber. I wouldn't modify the amp. Why go through the expense of buying another output tranny when 8 ohm speakers are so readily available. There is no benefit of using an 16 ohm speaker. If you want to kill the value of your vintage amp, change the transformers.

Great advice folks! I will be looking into the Weber and cancel the idea of a transformer switch out. very stupid thing to do!

This is a great forum!

In the whole scheme of things speakers are cheap even new ones.
Does everyone agree 8ohm and 30 Watts Thats what I think.
