Can anyone confirm that these were made from 1983 - 1985? I haven't found much on Google. I have one I started practising with again after digging it out of storage, but I can't find anything on it that tells me it's age

ok, there are many forms to determine the age of your gear but sometimes is a little challenging.
look in the inside take all the serial numbers that you can, and then try to find out on google the date, also here on the website you can determine some good things.

as i know they are from the 80s era but not sure on the year of manufacturing of your amp, maybe if you share with us a serial or odd or other things we can help.

Hello Ivan - thank you for that. The serial number on the back panel of the box is SK3 10970. The back panel says the amp was made in Japan, The cover over the electronics says Accutronics and is made in USA.

Would it help if I posted pics? I don't have any yet, but it's no problem to take some.

Well. accutronics is a well known spring reverb company, so that is not part of fender, just the reverb. after doing a little search is still a bit hard to determine how old is your amp. the thing is that on year 82 and 83 there where no blackfaces, until CBS sold fender and in 1984 they go back to blackface cosmetics. so i guess your amp was probably a 1984 - 1986, i believe is 85 or 86, i tried to find info also on www.fender.com.jp but nothin interesting on the site, another way to determine the exact year of makin is probably on the transformer codes or maybe the code on the main board. its easily to determine tube amps, but this is more challenging. well i guess this is the only help i can give you after 3 hours of searchin. hope this works a bit

many owners of sidekick dont know the date of their amps. me either, but
look at this timeline
1982: Fender Japan starts production with FujiGen Gakki having the manufacturing contract. The "Made in Japan" (MIJ) logo is used.
1984: CBS sells Fender to its current owners and while waiting for a new USA factory to begin production, Fender Japan models and leftover USA stock were mostly sold in the USA for a few years.
1992: The first "Crafted in Japan" (CIJ) models start appearing due to Dyna Gakki taking over some of the manufacturing while FujiGen Gakki were expanding their operations.
1996/1997: "Crafted in Japan" (CIJ) is used instead of "Made in Japan" (MIJ) because Tōkai and Dyna Gakki take over the manufacturing contract from FujiGen Gakki.

Thank you very much for that Ivan - I do appreciate it. I'll check out those links, it didn't occur to me to look for the fender site in Japan.

A friend of mine does electronics work and might be willing to have a look at the main board and transformer for me. Looking inside the box doesn't let me see enough as they're covered and I'm not comfortable taking it apart myself.

Again, thank you very much for the work you did! :D Hopefully I'll be learning enough about my gear that I can help out here too.
