Anybody here know anything about these amps like when they were made? Why they were made? I've stumbled across one in a pawn shop and I am totally digging it. It looks like some old stereo from the 60's or something. I've done a Google search but have only found old magazine ads for them. From what few specs I've found there was a 2 button footswitch for the reverb and vibrato, would a newer one work? Thanks to anybody that can shed some light on these.

If memory serves me correctly these were produced in 1967 to around 71, but if you really want the best dependable ss amp Fender made ,find a red knob Princeton Chorus amp, sweet and cheap...

AS I RECALL, WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE NAVY IN 1968, I OWNED A PRO REVERB I HAD BOUGHT IN 1965. WHEN I WALKED INTO THE LOCAL MUSIC STORE AT HOME THE OWNER SAID," MAN YOU'VE GOT TO TRY THIS." I PLUGGED MY MOSRITE INTO THIS "NEW IMPROVED" SOLID STATE PRO REVERB, AND PLAYED A LITTLE. TO ME IT WAS HORRIBLE. I WAS USED TO A REALLY GREAT SOUNDING BLACK FACE PRO REVERB AND THE SOUND THAT CAME OUT OF THIS NEW "SPACE AGED" TECHNOLOGY WAS LIKE FINGERNAILS ON A CHALK BOARD TO ME. I TOOK MY OLD PRO REVERB AND LEFT THE STORE. I'M BY NO MEANS A TUBE AMP SNOB, BUT THE FIRST ONES WERE NOT THE BEST SOUNDING AMPS. FENDER MEANT WELL, BUT THEY TOTALLY MISSED THE BOAT. THEY SHORTLY WENT BACK TO BUILDING TUBE AMPS. IF YOU GOT ONE THAT SOUNDS GOOD, YOU GOT REAL, REAL LUCKY!

I wouldn't say it sounds 'good' by most peoples idea, but it has it's own sound. I think any amp has it's own sound and can be useful depending on what you're going for.
