Hi!

I have a mid 70's silverface master volume Bandmaster Reverb head. Love the clean tone but would like to get more of a bluesy overdrive out it too and was thinking about having the unused 1st channel moded. I'm not looking for high gain, but rather the smoother breakup, like what happens when you dime a Deluxe or a Princeton. Haven't been satisfied with the pedal route (tried a Seymour Duncan Tube Blue, Boss Blues Driver and a BB preamp). FWIW, I tried a Blues Deluxe RI last week-end and it was in the ballpark in terms of degree of gain, but the tone was lacking a bit and I don't trust its reliability.

Any thoughts, opinions, experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!

Matt

Hi there md, I can give you a couple of thumbnail mods I've used over the years. 1) seperate the cathodes on V1B and V2B use 820ohm cathode resistor for more gain. 2) increase the first negative feedback resistor in the loop to taste. 3) increase the cap value feeding the phase inverter up to .02uf( back it down if unstable or ghost notes). 4) change the tone stack caps to .02uf orange drop or any high zoot cap you prefer and silver mica for the treble cap. 5) increase cathode bypass cap to 250uf 50V on V2B(for more low end). 6) choose pre amp tubes with your preference in mind. 7) install a true bias adjust pot. 8) choose power tubes with your preference in mind. 9) consider an output transformer that fits your needs. 10) choose speakers that will produce the breakup you're looking for. These are a few things that come to mind. Art

Thanks Art for the suggestions! I'll run them by my local amp guru and get some ideas about costs. Seems pretty straight forward. 8)

Hey md, that 250uf cap can be a lower voltage value,10 to 25VDC would be more than enough. Art
