I have a Fender Twin Reverb Silverface amp with a push-pull master volume knob. I bought this amp for $250 used in 1980 from Mark Chatfield of "The Godz" in Columbus, Ohio as the group was breaking up. Years later, I had the amp re-tubed, checked out all the caps, and re-biased. The tech noticed that the chassis serial number had been scratched off. I have heard that you can look at the transformer codes to get a date.

Does anyone know what year the push-pull master was first introduced? That will help me frame the dates. I have heard it was 1974? So my amp would be at least that year. Is there another way to get a manufacture date with no serial number?

Any suggestions?

By the way, this thing is unbelievably loud and clean. Should last another 30 years.

Thanks!

The fender amp book clames the verry first ones with the pull master volume, came out in 1974 and at that time it was the 100W output version. Late seventies they upgraded the out put to 135W. I think about 1977 or 76. So if you have a 100W it would be from 74 to late 76.

You can try the fender field amp guide at ampwares.com or google fender serials. There are a few good site that may help you exactly date your amp.

( A bit iffy that scratched off serial number tough )

That's what I had heard, glad to get verification. There is a Fender amp book? What's the title?

Mine is a 100W, 74 - 76 seems right to me. If this 100W rips my ears off above '5' I can't imagine what the 135W must be like.

Thanks for the references. I'll check them out.

Given the reputation of the band I bought it from, this does not surprise me at all. It clearly was scratched off on purpose. For years I didn't even know there was supposed to be a serial number there.

Thanks, Nut!
