Both are awesome amps.

I have worked with so many Blues Guitarists that use vintage Super Reverbs. They always sound great and sit very well in the mix of the band. They never fight for space with the bass, but they don't lack any depth. They are also harmonically rich, with a nice warm musical bite. Great amp.

Though, it is tough call. The Bassman is still a great building block for tone. :D

That is a tough one, I guess it depends on the style of music you play. I'd choose the Super because it has reverb. Thanks for posting

With the '59 Bassman, you don't need reverb (unless you want reverb as a special effect).
The amp is 3-D sounding on it's own.

I would have to go with the Super Reverb.

The amp is tight for great rythem lead tones, and the low end is focussed. As for doing leads other than the one time I heard a guy use EV's instead of something a little less brittle for that amp they shinned and on the stage they are very noticable and with a warm clear voice.

However, put a bassman over an open 4 X 10 cabinet and you have that classic Fender tone with plenty of harmonic color and that nice sparckle.

In conclusion: The Super would be easier to cross-over styles therefore it's a bit more versitile and practicle, IMHO.

Having used both a 63 SR (C10Q's) and a 58 Bassman (P10R), I'll take a Bassman! Any model with 4x10's. Add a tube Reverb unit if you like that, I do. I just scored a later 1956 5E6-A model. Recovered, still has original grill, wrong speakers (Jensen MI-10's similar to C10R's) and has a BF Twin Reverb Power Tranny, but it was only a few bucks more than a Reissue! With 2 C10Q's and 2- JBL D110F's it's loud!

I agree but if I had to make a snap decision the Bassman would be my pick! Then I'd wonder if I picked the right one! :?

I chose the SR, but if you used both together by running the SR into the Bassman, it would give you the best of both maybe?

As much as I lke the Bassman, I have to vote for the Super. It's a more rounded amp, versitile in comparison. They really are quite different but equally as nice, depending on what you are after tonally.
