A friend of mine is trying to sell one of these. It is super super killer great tone and excellent condition.

Any ideas how much one might be worth with it being in very good/ex condition? for a 68? or a 63? the date stamp is hard to make out but it looks like a 68

I have a fair bit of personal experience but I am not an expert on vintage amps. I don't "study" or conduct research. I preface my comment with this because I may be wrong.

My comment: I always thought 1968 was the first year of the Silver Face amps and 1967 was the last year of the Black Face amps.

OK, thanks. I thought so.

So to answer the OP I would think a Silver Face Super Reverb should be somewhere in the neighborhood of around $1,500 or so. Give or take depending on condition and originality of the transformers, speakers and such and/or presence of any hot-rodding mods. The better the condition and the more stock/original it is the better the value on the open market to a maximum of prolly around $1,700 or $1,800 for a truly pristine example.

According the the Fender Amp Field Guide, the average selling price of a '68 SFSR on eBay is $1,062.

http://www.ampwares.com/amp.asp?id=98

Scroll down to the bottom. Average price is based on 72 total sales, so it should be pretty accurate. Hope this helps :)

I'm in Canada and since the dollar is currently about the same or pretty close I figured the resale would be similar. Clearly not. Might be a good time to buy a used amp from south of the 49th.

Although it is typical that 1968 was the first year of the "silverfaced" amps, Fender did make some amps in 68 that were in fact "Blackfaced" they would always use any parts, such as the panels, so there are a few genuine "Blackface" amps out there that were manufactured in 68, also the circuit is identical. I learned this tid- bit from a fellow named Tony Cogneto who was a long time tech at Fender, I myself own one of these "transition" amps and am also a Fender amp tech and it is a wonderful amp, I also own a 66 so have had many opportunities to compare the two and indeed they are identical, cheers.

Yep, I agree with you, Bubba. Those early '68 amps are a real find, if you can latch on to one. Welcome to the forum. Art

'68 Silverface Super Reverb are great amp. Circuit is the same as the Blackface.

The only problem is the aluminium trim around the baffle, sometimes it rattle. That's nothing.

i just bought a fender super reverb amp for 980 euros...the previous owner told me tha is an original 1968 blackface model....
i tested ti and it sounds GREAT...the sound is a bit more bass coloured than i expected...
(i usually play only with my neck pick -up...and i turned the treble knob all the way up..)
Also atthe second channel(vibrato ,reverb)...the bright switch when its on ..is noisy...is that sth that can be repaired easilly???

from my research over the internet for this amps ...i can realize that there are some changes here...please check the photos below and tell me your opinion...

Late 1967 was actually the first year of the SF "drip edge" models...I have a SFDR made late in '67....that was the transition....but I don't know if it applies to all models.

Correct, RS.

My first "new/store-bought" Fender amp was a Super Reverb, purchased from B&G Music in Belleville, Illinois in August of '67. It was a drip-edge silverface with a build date of mid/late July.
