Ive got a '74 silverface twin and the vibrato intensity control turns the overall amp volume down when I turn it up. The rest of the amp works fine including the reverb. Thing is I just got it out of the shop for a half rebuild. When I got it back it worked like never before, including the vibrato. So what's going on? A tube problem?

was it working like this before you took it in?

I'd take it back to the shop and demonstrate; there may have been either something put back together incorrectly or the repair may have caused another problem to surface.

It worked when I took it in and it worked when I got it back. The guy I bought it off of had the vibrato fixed (it was not working and in order for me to buy it off him I told him he had to fix the trem). He is also a buddy of mine so I trust that he got it fixed properly. I'm actually taking it back tomorrow.

Yeah, good choice to take it into a tech. I agree with Ned, it's the "weakest link" syndrome. I've experienced this many times when repairing older amps. It's not anyone's fault. It's kind of tough to decide where to stop, when rehabbing these amps. I'm guessing the 50K-RA pot or the LDR is faulty. Never heard of a "half-rebuild," but hopefully this trip to the shop will stabilize your amp. Art

So I took my twin to the tech the vibrato worked fine. So I told him what I usually do is play for a while and then kick on the vibrato and that's when it does the weird volume thing. But he left it on for 2 hrs and it worked the whole time! So last night at rehearsal I tilted it back on the kickbacks and the vibrato quit working! Then I realized it's always tilted back when I can't get the vibrato to work. So it must just be a mechanical thing. So now I guess I just deal with it for a while cuz it's like a 40 min drive one way to the tech plus I'm kinda straped for cash...oh well
