I don't know much about tube amps, but I recently acquired a Vibro Champ Amp. I will be selling it, but I'd like to make sure it's working properly before I do. It plays okay, but not very loud. I know it's only 6 watts, but I think it should play louder. With the intensity above 3, it does not play. 3 and lower, the vibro works.

Question 1: should I replace caps? I know all capacitors degrade over time, and the amp is very old.

Question 2: I have heard that a two-prong plug is not safe. Should it be replaced with a three-prong cord/plug?

Question 3: What is the value of this type of amplifier.

If you can answer any or all of these questions, I would greatly appreciate your advice.

Thanks,
SBoicourt

Hi there Sboicourt, a replacement of the cap can is a good idea and the power cable should be changed also. But if you're going to sell the amp and not play it, I would suggest that you have a tech give it a good cleaning and component check. That vibrato problem seems like a dirty pot, to me. If the amp can be made to work after the basic servicing and the amp is stone cold stock, you'd be in a great selling position. A collector would want everything original and in it's place, not in a bag. A player would want to choose the quality of any components to be replaced. I think your best option would be having a good tech check and verify that the amp is functional and in stock(original) trim. Just my opinion. Art

Thanks Art, I've decided just to leave it as is, and sell it on EBay. I indicated that it should be serviced by the buyer in the ad. I just don't want to fuss with it, and I am not even a guitar player. I just love vintage audio gear.

If you have interest, take a look.

FYI - hats off for great photos showing the ins and the outs of the amp. Too many amps on ebay with 3-4 fuzzy photos at best.

Good luck!
