Hi, I have a Fender Concert 83 single head which was just had a retube kit that I installed from Eurotubes. I haven't used this amp for a long time so I might be forgeting a few things. The amp does not seem to have much volume to it with the retube in place. I replaced all the tubes because the sound was cutting in and out. I use to use an echoplex in the pre amp out stage and this unit has the volume controlls for the pre/ out and in. This is where the volume would kick in when using this area off the amp. If I try to use anything in the pre amp out area there is a loud hum. I tried a lexicon reverb unit and all I got was fuzz face sound. Question is , if you do not use anything in the preamp out / in do you run a cable from the output to the input to get the volume up? Is it that my old tubes were so bad that I really just need to turn down the levels of the pre amp out and in send levels? Thanks for your time with this issue.

These Rivera-era amps are hand wired point to point. Through the years and especially if the amp has been moved around a lot, it could be an internal wiring issue. I'd have a tech check it out. These are great sounding amps!

Hey Tdaddy, after the retube did the amp stop it's cutting out problem? Did you use some contact cleaner on the new tube pins before replacement? Did you adjust the output tube matching control? I apologize if I sound like a parent! The effect jacks can also be cleaned by spraying a 1/4" plug with contact cleaner and inserting a few times. These jacks don't need to be jumpered together and should be turned down when not in use. You might want to try another tube in that V6 position(effect loop). It calls for a 7025, current production tubes don't have the regulations that were imposed on the manufacture and performance standards of 30-40yrs ago. So the chance of getting a strong yet quiet tube is a crap shoot. One of your old tubes may work just fine in that position. If this is of no benefit, then I'd go with Mike's advise. Art
