Tried to post earlier, but nothing happened. So I will add some information now in case that post shows up. I have a Fender Twin Reverb amp and Fender Vibratone in my possession that I would like to sell. The TR has A16672 Stamped in the metal on the back plug in face, and on a sticker on the Lower right back side the power specifics with "model Twin Reverb Amp AB763" on it

About all the information I could find on the Vibratone was on a screw on panel on the back that said Serial No. 2551, followed by three patent numbers.

Any help pricing these would be greatly appreciated. I can tell you that they are in what I would call showroom condition.(Super Mint?) The belonged to my Father and all he did was play in our front room for his enjoyment. They have never seen the inside of a smoke filled honkey tonk, nor have they been altered in any way.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The Twin is a 1969 Silverface. Could bring 1000-1200.00 if it's as nice as you say. The Vibratone was made between 67-72. I've seen them go for 500-1200.00 depending on condition. Hope this helps.......... 8) Mike

Mike, Thanks a lot for the info! I knew they were late 60's but that was about it. I remember a few times that Dad would break out the guitar, Mom would get on her Hammond organ and I would play my beginner Pearl set and we would roll out a few tunes together. Those were the days.

I'm guessing that selling them together would be the best bet?

Thanks again for your help everyone. (and of course, if anyone is interested, I can send pictures ! :) )

Mike wouldn't that be an early '68, if it's an AB763 ? Bone out, those pieces seem very nice. I'd get some numbers off the transformers and pots as well, you'll need them for the sale anyway. And pics of the outside and inside of the pieces will also be necessary. I worked for a collector of Fenders for years. as a tech. As far as selling them together, that might hamstring the process. Just my opinion. Art

Art, not having date codes left me with the chassis serial number which dates to early 69. Agreed this is no way to absolutely date a Fender, I thought it might help Mr Bone to some degree.Keep me on my toes my friend......... 8) Mike

Wow! you guys are thorough! Where would I find these numbers? And would they add to the value of the equipment?

If you open them up to check pots, etc.,. handle with care as caps can hold a charge/electrical. Vintage guitar mag. advertize many dealers and private sellers to give you an idea of price range also. wish I had the money, they're nice amps.

Thanks, glad to hear that someone would be interested.

I'm familiar with that cap warning from my ham radio/broadcast radio use. However, these haven't even been plugged in for at least 20 years. I maybe should've mentioned that...

That would be one heck of a capacitor!

Yes that's good news about the pieces not being fired up yet. All of the capacitors need to be reformed, I'm sure you knew that from your ham radio experience. If you can bring the amps up very, very slowly(24hrs) on a variac or better yet a current limiter, you may be able to save them. With some luck your Twin has the light blue Astron tone and coupling caps, and a number of Mallory bypass caps. These guys are very desirable, by players and collectors. The original electrolytics may be alright, but they're not as critical to the selling value. I know this is an inconvenience, but I don't see any way around not knowing the operating condition of the amps, so you'll have to power them up. If you look inside the chassis and find the dark blue(shiny) and chocolate brown caps, then don't worry about it. Art

Well...ummm. that's very generous, I guess...

Actually, with the great help of everyone here I've taken them to a couple of places and the people have said that they are in near showeroom condition, and no one would beleive it unless they could see them. Seems the price that all the pros come up with is $1500.00 each. And since the economy is so good, I'm sure they'll sell before I've stopped typing. (crickets chirping, wind and tumbleweeds blowing...) hmmm, nothing yet. I must still be typing.
