Hey. I've got a 1968 Bassman 50 which I ordered in from The US a little while ago. I run it with a transformer to convert European 220 volt current (I'm in Ireland) to 110 American. That was fine untill my drummer got his grubby mits on it while I wasn't around during sound check at a gig last night and plugged it straight into a wall socket. The fuse is blown and I was just wondering if anyone can give me information on a replacement.

I need a 2 amp 1/4 x 1 1/4 inch (6 x 32mm) SLO-BLO fuse. The fuse that was in has a sort of spring inside it but I can only find this type on American sites that will cost me about 30 euro shipping on a 1.50 fuse! I can easily get fuses from Irish and UK sites with the same spec but with just a straight piece of wire inside them rather than a spring. Is there a difference between the two or are they interchangable? It probably sounds like a stupid question but I just don't want to take any chances. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Oversimplified, the 'spring' is in part, what makes the fuse a Slo-Blo where this coil is what helps resist current spikes which typically blow regular fuses. Some manufacturers feel the coil is not necessary, premising the proper metal composition of a straight wire is equally effective and/or cheaper to manufacture. You can try what is readily available to you and see what happens. Either way, you should make your drummer pay for any costs incurred until you've found the successful remedy. YMMV.

Cool. Just wanted to double check. I'll try out a few different fuses anyway and see what works best. The other guitarist in my band has a Fender Frontman I can borrow in the mean time. The drummer is paying for everything and I milked it to get a couple of pints off him last night so it's not the end of the world!

Cheers!
