Post subject: I have a super reverb silver face

It says 70 watts on the back plate and the speaker jack says 4 ohms. I have the chasis in a head cabinet can I run a a 4 ohm load on the speaker jack and a 4 ohm load in the external jack?? othher wise I have a 8 ohm 4 12" cabinet. ??

Hi Doc, that model Super Reverb('76-'80) is designed to drive a 4ohm load. You could probably run the amp with either speaker combination. The two 4ohm cabs would present a 2ohm load to the amp. This could cause the power tubes to wear out a little sooner and the output transformer would operate a little hotter. The 4X12(8ohm) cab could produce some flyback voltage causing some arcing at the power tubes sockets. It's my experience, that older Fender amps deal quite well with these mismatches. I ran my '67 Band Master(4ohm) into a 4X12(8ohm) cab, in a blues band for a couple of years, with no problems. Art

should I get 4 16 ohm speakers and wire the for a 4 ohm configuration??
