What fuse do I use in this amp? Back of amp calls for 1 amp slo-blo, the schematic calls for a 2 amp slo-blo. .7 amps, 117 volts, 60 cycles.

Hi there Blue, I would use the schematic and layout as a guide(2 amp). What size fuse was in the amp? ART

1 amp fuse in the amp. Seems to work fine, just confused what would be the best fuse to use.

Yeah I understand your confusion. It's pretty rare to find an error in Fender schematics and layouts, but it does happen. The 1 amp fuse would be safer for the amp. ART

Thanks for the input. Anybody know of any excellent amp techs in illinois or saint louis missouri? Also, I want to get into the technical side of things. Electronics. Any good free online couses or suggestions?

Blues, when I was starting out with amp work, I would take my amps to Victoria Amps in Nappervile, IL( if I got stumped on a problem). This was over twenty years ago, so I'm not sure what the repair side of their business is like today. My education is not formal, it started at the library with the Navy"Basic Electronic Handbook," then books on Tube Amp Therory. But I was blessed by getting to know four old electronic repair and design guys, in our small town. They cut their teeth in the "Golden Era" of tube equipment. They were my teachers! I'm sure you can find electronic training courses on line, but keep your eyes and ears open for those old neighbors that have the experience. Good Luck! ART

Naperville, victoria amps, wow! That place looks impressive. Its like a 3 and a half hour drive for me. I'm looking to have my 6g2 looked over. All original parts, so I figure its time to have the black beauty looked at. Don't want to blow something up and I know the amp could sound a bit better than it does. Needs more than likely tubes, caps, power chord replaced, resistors checked for correct values. This is about all I can think of. I've heard of killer vintage guitars in st. louis, just wondering if anybody has any other good suggestions as to where to take amp in the litchfield illinois area an hour or 2 drive? I'm tempted to go to naperville, that place looks great. Thanks. What do you think it will cost?

T2Stratman lives in your neck of the woods (near Scott AFB) -- he may have a contact for you. Previously he was using an excellent tech over in Collinsville but the old coot rudely up and died without warning. When I lived out there (Lebanon, IL) decades ago, we took our stuff to B&G Music in Belleville but they're long gone now. Anyway, Tony will be along sometime today. I think his new tech lives across the river.

Yeah, we were just talking about a good shop in the St Louis area. That inquiry also had to do with a vintage Princeton, if memory serves me. Tony had the info. My bad, Blue, that was your amp inquiry, back in June. Art

Blueflyingarrow...

As Retroverbial stated yes...I know of a good tech in St Louis...Obeid Khan former amp designer and builder for Ampeg and Crate is now in house repairs on Tube amps (ONLY). He works at Killer Vintage, link below, does very good work and came highly recommended. He did my Concert Amp cap job and retube (took a little over two weeks) but he baggied all the parts and boxed the old tubes (always good for a couple spares). Have no issues and the amp is quiet as a mouse and sounds great. I supplied the tubes (TAD 6L6's and NOS 7025, 12AX7, and 12AT7) and couldn't be happier.

I just recently ran across this other place, and to be honest from talking to him, I am going to give him a try as he is closer (Edwardsville Ill) and I got a great vibe from the guy. Contact David at...http://www.mojosmusic.com/ I am going to have this guy work on my 65 Super Reverb and see how it goes, as I can drop in to check progress.

As for B&H music that Retroverbial mentioned they are still there, but send thier repair out to a guy, but they were kind of cagey about the info...so took that as a bad omen and went with these two guys.

Thanks so much for the info. I feel better about the situation. I don't want a bad experience and I value your input. All of your input. I,ve been taking my time to avoid a mess, also to get educated enough to feel confident when talking with these guys. This forum is really good. Thanks!

Be sure to save any removed original parts and ask the tech for a complete write-up on what was done and what components were involved. Try to keep the amp as original as possible, excepting the usual safety mods. Speaker swaps are considered to be "non-invasive" and are permissible (keep the OEM Oxford 10J4 if you have it and safely store it).

Best of luck and post some pics if you can.
