Not me, but just curious.

My oldest is a mid 60's DR and TR.

I'm sure others have older, but mine is a '65 Bandmaster. The original head cabinet is tucked safely away so that putting it back to stock is 30 minutes if needed.

I have a 1965 Super Reverb chassis in a 1964 Vibroverb cabinet with a 15" speaker. I bought it in the early 80's, gigged with it a few times, loved it, loaned it to a friend (s.o.b.) who blew the tranny. I had lots of other amps I was using so it sat in a closet for close to 25 years. Just recently I had a good friend with lots of Fender experience replace the power tranny and subsequently the output tranny, among other components. The tubes are the originals, as far as we can tell. My issue now is, well actually two, it randomly blows fuses when I power it on - not always. However, once I replace the fuse it will go for several sessions without a problem. Secondly, at certain pitches (can be heard most prominently on the upper register of the fretboard), it emits a horrible sort of "glassy" sound. Hard to describe but it's very annoying. I'm really considering replacing the power tubes for starters and probably the preamp tubes as well. Can I get some suggestions from y'all? I don't want to break the bank. Thanks!!

byw, if anyone wants to check it out here it is http://www.flickr.com/photos/27231163@N ... 52/detail/

Hi Goldtop, nice job on the amp.Probably should post another thread on this amp. Just curious about the fuse problem. Does the fuse blow before the amp is switched from standby to the "play" mode? Was the new power transformer designed for use with a 5U4 or was it just for the '65 Super Reverb? The 5U4 draws more filament current(3amps) than the 5AR4-GZ34(1.9amps), which can cause overheating problems in some power transformers. Have the main filter caps been replaced? The noise sounds like a microphonic tube. Art

Miami Mike,
here is a picture of my 56 Tremolux and my 56 Strat. Both are made in March of 1956.

the fuse blows the nanosecond I flip the power switch on. I don't know the answer to your 2nd question but I could probably find out. sounds like a valid question. main filter caps were replaced. if I were to try replacing tubes do you have some specific recommendations? I'm expecting some cash for Christmas and I'd really like to get her working and sounding like she should. thanks for the help.
