It makes a fizzy/kinda almost staticky noise when I play notes. The clean tone is fizzy? You can only hear it when playing clean/not cranked, lets say anything less than 6 on the volume. I'm guessing when you turn it up the tube crunch covers up the fizzy sound. Does this sound like a tube issue?

Could it be the voice coil on the speaker? It is the original speaker.

I can hear a really awesome amp in this little bad boy but I can't get over the fizz/kinda almost static when trying to play clean. Help! Also, it's still has the original 2 prong plug. I'm gonna get it updated but could this be the culprit?

Swap out the cord right away. Big safety issue bro. The polarity could be causing you problems, who knows, but the cord is a safety issue....... 8) Mike

Well, after I replaced the pre-amp tube with a chinese 12ax7 I had laying around, I turned the amp back on to a low hum. If I turn up the intensity you can hear the hum pulse/tremolo but no guitar signal.I tried other 12ax7 as well as the zenith that it came with... same thing just low hum. I just got this and paid way to much. I bought it off CL from a guy in cali who told me it was mint. Far from it.

Hey Kberanek, it's not unusual for an older amp to have a few problems. Once the issues are fixed the amp should be trouble free for many years. Mint usually means original components, so you'll need to replace the worn out parts. A good place to start is that power cord and you'll need to use a wall outlet that is not influenced by motors or lights that can cause noise(cell phones, etc). A test of the speaker and amp can be done by substituting another speaker(4,8,16ohm is OK for the test). If the hum is still present the filter capacitor can and/or the 6V6 tube could need replacement. Be sure to try good 12AX7's, sounds like you've tried this. I would not consider the 5Y3GT or the transformers bad at this time. It's my experience that the filter caps and power tube need replacement. Then you'll be set for years. ART
