Hi,

I want to buy Fender amp for me. I'm looking for one of those reissue models. Fist choice was Twin Reverb. Now I'm inclined to buy Super Reverb (as it has the additional vintage crunch). But there is one other model which I can't locate on Fender website. It's Fender '93 Super Amp. Would somebody tell me what's the difference between this model and the reissue series (specially Super Reverb)? Appreciate the reply.

Hi Zwitek, and welcome to the forum. The '90s Super Amps shared the same chassis as the '90s Concert amps. They were excellent amps for their time, but at 16yrs old, their maintenance could be an issue. The Super Reverb Reissue, with it's tube rectifier, vibrato, and it's vintage circuit should be more reliable, easier to maintain, and sound pretty cool. The main difference, in my opinion, would be that the Super would have more of that "glassy-shimmer", than the Reissue amp. The Super, of course, has more controls for channel switching, effects loop, line out, master volume and gain. So they are quite different in some respects, but share the 4X10 combo amp design. ART

Hi aclempoppi

Thanks for the reply. What do you mean by "maintenance could be an issue" ?
Thanks

Hi Z, What I mean is that due to the amps complexity and construction techniques they are not service friendly. There are some posts on the Modern Amp forum concerning 1990's Super amps. Although, I did not have problems with a Super 60 of mine, some folks have had problems over the years. ART

O.k., I know what you mean now. What I still need to know is whether this is a model which can be considered as a very good, good, well done (successful). Or is it unsuccessful, a product of dubious quality, is it a model that should be avoided? What's the overall opinion about this particular amp? I have an opportunity to buy this model and the more I know the better (concerning lack of information about this series over the web). Appreciate the replies.

Hi Zwitek: The two amps are different in several ways, but both will produce that Fender sparkle we all love. A Super Reverb will start to break up at about 5. It is a nice tone, but for the most part a Super Reverb is a no frills amps. Great sound, quite dependable, and like all Fender Reissue amps, they take pedals quite well. The Super is a channel switching amp made good and solid like most Fender amps. Channel one is supposed to imitate a bassman if you like that tone, but to muffled for me.
However, pull the volume dial and it puts a beautiful sparkle back into your tone. Channel 2 of course offers two levels of gain. Both are quite nice, but not the same tone you would get when truly overdriving a basis tube amp. This in not a bad thing when you consider most tube amps get quite loud when you go for that natural overdriven tube tone. This becomes an issue in a club because of the volume. Over all their both great amps. I have both, but then I love everything Fender. Check out Dave's Guitar Shop in LaCrosse. WI.They are a Fender Dealer and he has a very clean used Super Amp listed on his site at a very fair price.

I have owned both amps, and prefer the studio fullness of the Super Reverb. I have a mid-70s model, and the tubes need replacement, so navigating a reasonable priced option for those may be an issue... so a new solid state model should be much less maintenance.
