Hey Everybody,

I have a Super Reverb with a stamp code of QJ which dates it to Nov 67. The interesting thing is that there isn't a Drip Edge around the Grill Cloth. I've heard one storie where Fender ran out of Blackface panels for certain amps and started using the silver panels while still using Blackface panels for other models as supply allowed. Can anyone give me a clearer Idea if this is really one of the first Silverfaces that came off the line? The Pot Codes date to 66.

Thanks for any Info!!!

Ronnie

Hi there Ron. I'm an old tech guy who worked for a BF & SF(drip edge only) collector and never ran across this situation. I'll give him a call tuesday and get his opinion. A couple of questions: Does the faceplate have the black stripes between the channels and some of the other controls to the right? Does the faceplate show the signs of (40yrs) oxidation? Can you date the transformers? Does the grill cloth show the age between the front and what's underneath the baffle cleats? Wish I could be of more help, but my focus was on the internal function, components, wiriing, etc., verification, repair, and restoration. ART

Ron, talked with the collector. He thought(and I agree) it would be very unlikely that Fender would put on a faceplate without the rest of the cosmetics(drip edge). The grill cloth does have the blue and silver weave, right? If the trannies date to the '66-67 era and the internal components, etc. seem to be the same, then I think you're looking at a different scenario. Perhaps the grill cloth was damaged and the owner wanted to make the amp look like the newer ones, instead of one those old humdrum amps. You know what I mean? ART
