Awesome forum! I'm gonna spend a lot of time here I can tell...

Anyways, I'm picking up a 1967 Dual SHowman with original cabinet from the original owner soon, and I feel so lucky! I have a 2005 Telecaster that I think will pair nicely with it. I've been playing a Fender digital DSP-212, never had a tube amp before, I think this will suffice!

I'm curious what musicians played the Showmans. Obviously Dick Dale. I've also seen references to Steve Howe, D.Boon and The Who. Any other big names that played them or recorded with them?

THanks!

BRitt

On rare occasions Hendrix used them. Welcome to the forum. When you get that amp post a few pics. I have a 67 cab with the D-130's in it. 8) Mike

congrats on a great amp! Very cool find!

Make sure you find an amp tech who can do a once over on this amp and perform a filter cap upgrade (after 40 years, they're due) and a grounded 3-prong cord/death cap removal.

As Mike said, please post pictures of the amp when you get it!

Yeah so it's been awhile, but better late than never...

So the cabinet has the original D-130s in it, but I think it's a 68, there is a blue thread in the grillecloth that isn't on the amp. The cabinet has a few nicks and stuff, and the cloth is in poor shape so I may restore the cabinet with matching cloth. The amp itself is in near mint condition!

I now need to locate someone in Portland that can do the filter cap and new power cord

Comments welcome!

Britt

Wow! Congrats and nice amp.

I'd leave the cabinet alone - it takes $ and skill to have a cabinet recovered correctly, and yours has patina/age on it others wish they had. Just my $0.02.

Suggestion - with that much amp, you may want one of these:

http://auralex.com/sound_isolation_gram ... gramma.asp

I have the GRAMMA that I've used for my Princeton Reverb, Bandmaster 2x12 combo and on stage under our bass player's Ampeg bass amp. It effectively decouples the amp from the floor, which in a non-studio situation can be a big help in stopping everything in the house from rattling. You do still get plenty of bass from the speakers, but without the whole house shaking and a spouse/girlfriend yelling at you. I speak from experience...

Also, is that a cast iron stove handle lurking on the left side? If it's anything like the cast iron stoves my parents had growing up, that is definitely not a good place for that amp - unless you want to remove the tolex...

Here's a photo of a "regular" Dual Showman head without the reverb tank:

This one was made in 1968/69.

What is it that makes the Dual Showman heads more valuable than Bassmans or Bandmasters? What are the sound differences?
