Hi all,
I've got a real nice '63 Deluxe and I just ordered a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker on the advice of a good repair guy i know, but i have no idea if this was a good idea or not. i guess I'll find out. The EV M speaker in there was pretty harsh, no breakup. I love good spongy tones like Knopfler and Ronnie Earl-different I know-but anyway-I'm plugging my '65 Strat right into the Amp and i want speakers that will sound great. I know it's subjective. I'm not using pedals, I'm looking for pure tone at various volumes, liquid cleans and overdrive that sings as the volume increases. Roots, blues, Rock and Roll music.
Any comments, speaker wise?
Thanks

Actually The Deluxe Reverb (63) used what Fender designated as an "L" series speaker which simply denoted wattage. These were 25-30 watts. Primarily these, in a 63, were a Jensen or Oxford. I would think that the Celestion, rated at 60 watts may not give you the grit your looking for. I have a 65 Bassman and put 25 watters in it. (Weber 12F150's) At about 4 to 5 on the dial they start smokin!!! YMMV. It will break up better than the speaker you pulled though. 8) Mike

Hey Thanks Mike,
I've been seeing this may be the case. Meanwhile, I've spent a couple of frustrating hours trying to get the EV M out of the amp. The top of the rim won't clear the bolts and the electronics connected to the chassis-and I'm not sure what to move: the speaker grill forward or the chassis guts back? Auugh! Help. I already know I'm gonna end up with a celestion i don't want and a Weber I do. Well-at least I have something to look forward to if I can get the speaker out of there.

Hey Mike,
Indeed, the chassis pulled back. When I got the EV M out of there and realized-(you gotta laugh to keep from crying)-that the cabinet has 8 bolts and the Celestion has 4 bolt holes, I knew this was not meant to be. Luckily the company I bought the speaker from has a generous return policy, so i should be fine. Now the question remains-go with the Weber? Eminence, some people say. If so which one? And I'm not sure about the 25 vs 50 watt thing, even on the Webers, since this is a one 12 amp and only puts out about 19 watts on a good day, maybe the 25 would be cool. Or maybe it would break up too easily and i'd lose punch and clarity for rhythm-I can't know, so i'm just asking. Got to get some info from people with a similar amp who have had success and failure etc. Thanks so much for taking the time. Very cool of you.

The Weber 12F150 does come in 25 or 50 watts. I have 2 25s (total of 50 watts) in that Bassman and it's a 50 watter. Theres quite a bit of clean headroom as it stays pretty clean up to about 4. The 50 in your amp will definately stay cleaner. I just like the grit personally and would slap a 25 in it. The Webers are 8 hole by the way. Good luck whichever way you go. 8) Mike

Hi DC; Yeah I would agree about the Weber speaker(25watt). I' ve used a number of different Weber speakers over the years and they always performed as described. They usually take me 20hrs to break them in before they bloom. As far as Tone Tubby goes, my friend the speaker aficionado, likes them alot. But he always reverts back to the Celestion Blue Bulldogs for his Badcat. Hope this helps some. ART

What is a good replacement speaker for the Mexican -Made Blues Junior combo?

I am running the amp into my Vintage 4*12 right now: 1960AV ;),
and the amp pushes well.

I am also researching options to replace the tubes and make adjustments so the amp doesnt get 'too hot'.

any knowledge shared would be great.

Again, I'd recommend the Weber 12F150(the 25 watt model). Great speaker that will give you some nice grit at your amps wattage rating( 15 watts). 105.00 + shipping. Got a pair in my 1965 Bassman , and I wouldn't put just anything in that 43 year old baby. 8) Mike
