I have a complete chassis from a BF Pro Reverb, it's in pretty rough shape wondering if it's worth restoring???
The fiber boards are all pretty warped from being in a damp shed, the power tranny was fried, that's why it went into the shed.
I was thinking of a getting a new eyelet board and wiring in all new caps and resistors, but then what's original and would even sound classic anymore?

Thanks

CR

Sounds like a good project, but not sure if it would be cost effective?

That's kinda what I mean. I can get a new eyelet board for like $25, and all the caps and resistors for less that $140 all from Torres. Add some filter caps and a photocell, and that's basically it for under $200. I have a brand new twin reverb tranny, which I think is close enough, at least to power it up and make sure everything else works...

I just don't know how "vintage" it will sound with basically all new guts???

CR It seems like a great project ! IMHO It would only be a matter of the component quality that you choose to use. Will it sound "classic" ? Yeah, unless you change circuit values. Good iron and tubes will all add up to a clear strong Pro. Will it be cost effective? Maybe not. Will it be tone effective? Good Luck, ART

If you're going to redo it, go for the AB763 circuit, not the CBS AA165 circuit. Plenty of schematics around. The AA165 circuit introduced some new problems such as cutting off high end oscillation (at like 6K) but added some benefits to the power supply.

Hammond, Mercury and others make replacement transformers.

You can get original boards or newer ones made out of non-warp materials. I don't know if the board makes much of the sound, but durability would be a concern.

Should be a fun project. Whether doing it yourself or through a good shop, make a stated goal and a budget. Are you taking this back to original spec? Is this going to be played out every night?
