I have a brownface Fender Bandmaster I bought used in highschool and I'd like to sell it but I have no idea what it's worth. It's the model number 6G7-A that were made from 1961-1963.

In the early 90s, I got talked into modifying it by adding an effects loop, and stacking the two channels to create a distortion that sounds very Kinks meets early Who. Kevin Hilbiber of Softscience in Seattle (who was an amp tech for many of Seattle's bands in the heyday of the mid-90s) did the work. From a collector's view, it's unfortunate the amp was modified. For someone looking for a cool, one-of-a-kind amp with 60s Fender tone, it would be a great piece for a studio.

The original white tolex was replaced back in the 80s with a black tolex that is far past it's prime. But the brown grill on the front of the head, the brown handle, the face plate, the knobs, and the Fender logo all look great. And the amp sounds like a sweet Bandmaster, that if so desired, can also go to 11.

What do you think it's worth? Would it be worth restoring the tolex back to white to resell it, or would it make more sense to sell as is?

Dave

You could look at completed auctions on eBay do get an idea how much it would be worth, and you can always go back in and restore the electronics to original specs. These old amps are all point to point wired so it's not very hard to do.

considering the mods, it might be worth about $700-$800. it's actually worth what you can get for it. so if you put it on ebay, chances are you'll get pretty good money for it.

Did you ever sell it?

Good lesson that mods are OK, as long as they're reversible. If this cascading gain mod was just some different wiring, not a problem. If it involved cutting new holes for jacks, tubes, etc., probably not a good idea on a vintage amp.
