Hi I have a 1969/70 Twin and the reverb isn't working. sometimes it kicks in for a second when I play harder. Any ideas?

I'm also thinking of getting a THD attenuator in an attempt to keep some of the tone when I'm told to turn down to 1.5. Doe's anyone use one with a non master?

Thanks

The reverb tanks usually develope a problem after awhile. The springs are suspended and after being moved and banged around for 40 yeays the wiring to the coils at each end breaks. Bump the amp, if you hear reverb, the problem is on the input side of the tank. Also the springs come off too.

Thanks, I'll check the connections. Probably replace the main tubes if I can find someone to bias them. The small ones were replaced a few years back. They're the ones for Reverb and Trem right? The main ones are power? I'm finally trying to understand these things as it's a bit like having a car and not knowing basic stuff.

Again thanks for the advice

Hi there, the tube that Cherokee mentioned(I guess) is the 12AT7 reverb driver, or V3( that is the third from the right as the amp is viewed from the back).V4 is the recovery tube for the reverb, a 12AX7. They maybe just dirty and not getting a good connection. Do you get any responce when moving the reverb control back and forth? These also get dirty and can cause intermittent problems. As far as the power tube bias is concerned, these amps were designed with a hum balance control in place of the older bias pot. Some folks modify this section of the amp, but if you're happy with the tone you can just adjust it for the least amount of hum. THD and Weber have good attetnuators, IMHO, I'd go with one of Weber's products.
