i have a 1974 twin reverb and absolutly love it, but recently my amp has been acting a bit strange. i have put new tubes in it and it is still missing some of its cleanness. the on/off switch is pretty much useless. when i try to turn it off the amp is still on unless i unplug it. :( . i have some friends that say that it needs a cap job for the cleanness and a new switch but i want some more opinions before i take my favorite amp to someone to start ripping her appart. i was also wondering what the purpus of the pull/push feature on the master volume is. i've heard that its some kind of gain boost but the only thing i notice when i pull it is the reverb being cut when im playing through the vibrato channel. if there are any thoughts please let me know asap and if you know someone in texas that i can take it to that does good work and has experience with these amps that would be very helpfull. thanks

Hey there Cowboy; did you take the amp in yet? Sounds like it just needs some basic maintenance and a new switch. The clean tone is dependent upon clean components(ei. pots, jacks, tube sockets). The age of the filter capacitors can also have an effect on the sound. If they are 35yrs. old, they've done their job and should be replaced. Your tube choice will also contribute to tone. That master pull boost pot should not cause the reverb to cut off, but rather increase the entire gain or volume of the amp(it may just be dirty). As far as servicing goes, there must be a ton of them. I'd ask gigging profesionals in your area and there is Kendrick Amplifiers. Good Luck! ART
