First I would like to say hi to everyone on the forum.

Over the last few months I've been fixing my late father's '79 Twin Reverb.

It had been sitting in the garage unused for over 10 years before I decided to have a look at it.

It was is a sad state as can be seen in the following photos:

Image

The tube on the top-left was broken and the speaker on the right had duct tape holding it together.

Image

Both speakers were just as bad as each other. Besides the duct tape they also had cotton wool stuffed into the surrounds.

The speakers were sent away and were re-coned, new voice coils and spiders were put in.

Around this time I also purchased a quad set of Svetlana 6L6GC "Winged C" tubes.

My good friend "Mr D" installed and biased the new tubes. The remaining Fender tubes were put through his tube tester and were found to still be in great shape. The caps were the original Mallorys, they tested OK.

After turning it on and playing a few tunes through it we found that the reverb didn't work.

We found the souce of the problem and was easily fixed.

Almost finished, just need to re-install the reverb tank.

I've had the Twin at home now for a few hours. It's been switched on the whole time and there is a small problem that still needs to be sorted.

There is a "clicking" sound when I switched it on. After letting it warm up for a good couple of hours it still clicks every now and then. It looks like it is coming from the reverb because the clicking stops when I turn the volume down on the vibrato side of the amp.(Hope it makes sense)

Can anyone help me out with what this problem is?

Also, has anyone got a link to where I can find a user manual for my amp. I've been looking but can't find one for the '79 Twin.

Thanks in advance,

Minoan

Wow, Minoan, great photos! Wish I was computer savvy enough to do that. Is the clicking intermittent? These amps are notorious for the vibrato ticks or clicks. Does it change with adjustments to the intensity and speed controls? If the normal channel is the only one turned up is there any click? Love the look of those stone cool taped speakers, how did they sound before repair? Oh yeah does the click change if the foot switch is plugged in and how does the vibrato effect work? Back in the earlier days, I used Elmer's glue and mashed up paper to repair my speakers, but that tape looks so great! ART

You mean post photos here? It's easy!

The simplest way is to create a photo bucket account here:

http://photobucket.com

and you'll be able to post pictures from e-mail, your hard drive and other sources. Just copy the IMG code once you posted a picture, and paste it here.

I love helping people with this stuff, don't know why. Maybe it's because I'm not much good at all else.

Great amp by the way, you're lucky.

I'm glad you guys like the amp and thank you for your help so far.

I have a video of my amp on youtube. Check it out!

Also, what does the pull boost on the master volume do?

I have a 72-73 silver face and it still runs great .
