Are there any identifying serial numbers on the chasis and transformers that I need to look for to make sure the amp is all original for a '71?

Thanks!

The transformers have a code stamped on them (series of numbers). Get those and report back.

OK, here they are. The smaller one in the middle was a little hard to read so, I'm not sure if that number is exactly right.

jo 22798
606-1472-7

next,
022899 ?
606 4672
022 855

and finally,
-606-3-06

Thanks for the help!

In order the top one is from 71 . The middle one is from 74, and the bottom one is from 73. If they are original it would be a 74 model. What leads you to believe it's a 71 Model? Mike

Yeah sounds like the guy just confirmed one number or just used the lowest number. You always have to look at all the numbers and used the latest date for finding out the year of an amp. I also agree that it is a 74'. No biggy though. I have a '73 that rocks.

Thanks y'all. It really sounds amazing! Tone city! I was just curious about the year. I love that it sounds so great with my Tele or Les Paul.

Thanks again!

That's a nice amp as long as it's still 40 watts. They changed the wattage on some for the loud clean sound and messed them up. (CBS) I repaired a 1974, (original even down to the tubes) a while back and tried to buy it off the guy, but he wanted to see what he could get for it on ebay. He got about 400 bucks more than I was going to give him. Sweet amp.

I have one from 75 .It has the master volume (which i leave in 10) and it has 40 watts.Great sounding amp.I think in 76 or 77 they made them with a solid state rectifier and the wattage was boosted up to 70 watts making it sound sterile.I just wished mine wasnt so heavy. It weighs 85 lbs.

I just had mine checked out. Everything is original except for the tubes. The rectifier tube, caps, speakers and everything else is original. The caps were starting to leak so I had them replaced. The tone is incredible on this thing, I can't get enough! Of course, I'm preaching to the choir here. :D

I'm confused...a quick little lesson would be appreciated as I'm obviously learning the ropes with dating old Fender amps.

But would the numbers that were given mean the following years of production...?

606-1472-7 (means 14th week of 1972)

606-4672 (means 46th week of 1972)

606-3-06 (means 6th week of 1973)

That's how I would have translated the dating...what I am doing wrong?

Any quick tips would be appreciated!

Ryan
